At our member museums you can see everything from astronauts to arachnids, dinosaurs to dolls, and pioneers to Picassos. We have western forts, Victorian homes, living historical farms, and modern arts centers. Our museums are located in the heart of modern cities like Denver and Cheyenne, nestled in spectacular mountain valleys, and on wide-open plains with more sky than any other place in America.

Regional Associations

MPMA has a central office in Littleton, CO. Its governing structure includes a board of directors and numerous committees and affiliates. Staff includes an executive director and an office assistant. This group oversees the services that MPMA provides. An annual fall conference is attended by nearly 300 professionals each year. The conference provides opportunities for all levels of professionals in training, networking, and information exchange at a relatively inexpensive cost. Over 700 individuals, institutions and businesses annually support MPMA by paying membership dues. A bi-monthly newsletter and a discount purchasing cooperative program are available to members.

The IFCPP is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the education, networking, and specialized training of security officers, supervisors, managers, and administrators working in Museums, cultural properties and public institutions. Founded in January 1999, the Foundation has both individual and institutional members from across the globe. The IFCPP offers national certification for anyone responsible for the protection of a public institution or cultural facility. IFCPP isn't just a great source for cultural property protection training and education.it's the only source. We strive to enhance networking between members and member institutions, research on protection related issues, and placement assistance for protection professionals.

The National Association for Interpretation (NAI) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) professional association for those involved in the interpretation of natural and cultural heritage resources in settings such as parks, zoos, museums, nature centers, aquaria, botanical gardens, and historical sites. For more than 50 years, NAI and its parent organizations have encouraged networking, training, and collaboration among members and partners in support of our mission: inspiring leadership and excellence to advance heritage interpretation as a profession.

2025 Conference Theme: Looking Back to the Future For the past several years, many museums have been deeply involved in planning programs and events to observe the 250th birthday of the United States of America. As museums ask their audiences to look to the past to understand the present and shape a better future, perhaps now is a good moment in time for Virginia’s museum community to take pause and look back at its own history. We are excited to see you in Blacksburg in March 2025 as we take a moment in our hectic schedules to take pause and visit our diverse pasts. The 2025 AASLH Annual Conference, in partnership with Ohio Local History Alliance, will take place as the history field makes the final preparations to kickoff off the 250th commemoration of the founding of the United States.

The 2025 conference theme, inspired by AASLH’s Making History at 250: The Field Guide for Semiquincentennial, is an opportunity to broadly explore one of the guide’s themes, The American Experiment. For many in the American colonies in 1776, independence from Britain represented a “leap into the dark” into an unknown future

We are excited for you to join us in Cincinnati as we encourage discussion about our democracy and civic institutions and how they can help strengthen understanding, inspire action, and reveal ways that all of us can participate in and shape the ongoing American experiment.
