The Peacham Historical Association
collects, preserves, and makes available a wide array of materials documenting the history and people of Peacham.
The Peacham Historical Association’s Historical Archives and Collections document the history of Peacham since its founding in 1776. The holdings record settlement, development and evolution of the town from a pioneer outpost to a subsistence farm-based economy to thriving sheep and then dairy farm production, a retreat for summer residents and tourists and a destination for back-to-the-landers, organic farmers and remote Internet-enabled workers. Areas of specific interest include: 18th 19th and 20th century New England village economic, educational, architectural and social history, church history, family genealogy, the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and World War II, in which various Peacham residents participated.
The Historical Archives and Collections contain a wide variety of manuscripts, including letters, diaries and ledgers as well as photographs, maps and textiles. PHA plans to provide electronic access to selected holdings.
We are an all-volunteer organization, which means there are many ways to get involved at the Peacham Historical Association. Even if you only have a couple of hours to spare, we could use your help.

This electronic archive presents the detailed reminiscences written by Mark Wheeler, a Peacham Civil War soldier who spent several months as a prisoner of war at the Confederate Prison at Andersonville in Georgia. The Web site features the transcribed text version, the electronic images of the original manuscript, and biographical information.
PHA collections include historic maps of Peacham from its earliest settlement. We are making several digitized maps available on this web site. They present a wealth of information about Peacham in the 19th century. The digitized maps include the manuscript map of Peacham lotting plans that show the division of land among the pioneer settlers in early 1800’s. Two of the maps were printed in gazetteers of Caledonia County. The maps of the 12 school districts in 1875 show not only the location of the one-room schoolhouses but also names of property owners in 1875
In commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War, Peacham Historical Association (PHA) is working to document, preserve, and present Peacham’s history during the Civil. We have prepared a draft list of Peacham soldiers who lived in Peacham before, during and after the Civil War. The list together with photographs, transcripts of letters and diaries and other materials will be published in late 2011. You may review the draft list at the Library or here on the PHA website.
To tell the stories of Peacham men who served in the Union armies, PHA is seeking their photographs, letters and other documents. If you have holdings of a Peacham soldier’s papers, please consider allowing PHA to make copies
