Description
New Jersey's Preeminent Military Museum

The National Guard Militia Museum of New Jersey tells the story of the state’s Militia and National Guard beginning with Dutch, Swedish and British colonization through the War for Independence to the Civil War, World Wars I and II and up to the present day, paying particular attention to the diversity of the New Jersey citizen soldier and his or her experience. Notably, the museum has one of the largest collections of New Jersey related Civil War research material in the country, including copies of diaries, letters, newspaper clippings, memoirs, regimental histories and articles.

Museum Building

We are located at the National Guard complex on Eggert Crossing Road in Lawrenceville. Please enter through Gate #3 and pull straight forward to the security booth. The security guard will direct you to the Museum parking lot. Please have proper identification to present to the security guard.

Housed next to the historic 112th Field Artillery Armory In Lawrenceville, exhibits include over 300 years of NJ military history featuring tanks, artillery, small arms, uniforms, equipment and personnel carriers.

Brand new stand-alone building located on the grounds of the National Guard Armory.

Mission

We have the mission of preserving and explaining the military heritage of New Jersey while enhancing public understanding of how armed conflicts and military institutions have shaped our state and national experience

Facilities

Wifi is not available at the museum.

Food and beverages are not permitted inside the museum. Water bottles are permitted. The museum has a water fountain.

Governance

The museum is run by New Jersey Department of Military & Veterans Affairs that supports the collections, exhibitions and educational programs of the museum through volunteerism, advocacy and fundraising. Memberships allow the museum to continue its important work and enable the museum to continue its excellent exhibits and programming. The museum is host to dozens of group tours each year. We offer customized programs for Scouts, veterans groups, senior groups, schools, historical societies, and youth camps. For group tours of our museum in Lawrenceville, please use our online request form.
